How am I going to engage in deep readings? What sort of rubric will I follow?
1) I am going to classify the book according to subject matter.
>Is this book theoretical? - Does it describe how things are?
>Is this book practical? - Does it describe how to get somewhere or how to do something?
2) I am going to state as succinctly as possible what the essence of the book is.
>The central idea(s) around which the book is organized.
3) I am going to outline the parts to the whole book.
>What components contribute to the whole, the essence?
4) I am going to ask why the author is writing this book.
>What problems or issues have driven the author to write their book?
>We know the "what" about the book, but "why" is just as important.
